What does it look like for worship leaders when we stop looking though the itunes top 100 page to find our worship songs and write our own? It’s by no standard the most convenient or effortless endeavor, but what if we stopped doing that? What if we started asking God to give us the words, music, and instrumentation that He wants to hear in our worship? It’s a long and strenuous feat, it almost never comes easy, and it takes weeks, if not months to do. The process in itself is daunting. We think, “other writers and musicians have already written great songs, so why not just download and use those?” Sometimes, YES! By all means, use those songs, lead in worship with those songs, and bring His children closer to the Father by other artists’ works. It’s ok, because sometimes God uses what others have written to lead you and His children in worship. What I’m writing is not condemning those who have done so; I myself have done that often, but what if the Lord is calling you to write, would you?
Would you give a day, week, or even a month to say, “Lord, here I am. Pour over me what you would have me lead your children in worship with”. It’s not your skill of writing, It’s your willingness to write. I promise, you will never write anything worshipful if you don’t allow the Holy Spirit to write it through you. We are His vessel. I believe He desires for worship leaders to write, but the enemy says, “look at all these great worship songs others have written, you’ll never be that good” FALSE! Friends, don’t judge your writing ability by anyone else. The Holy Spirit will work through you differently than He does for others, and your heart in writing understands the Spirit different than anyone else because God has a unique one of a kind relationship with you! He wants to put something in your heart that’s for you and the people you lead. It’s not a new song, neither an old song. It’s a song the Lord has been waiting to give you. He has known every word of that song forever! He’s just waiting for you to say, “I’m ready Lord, write through me, share with me, and give me the words you want sung over your children.” Are you willing to do that?
I believe if you’re reading this, the Lord has something for you to write. It may be a song, poem, or even a reflection to share with others. Whatever it may be, I can promise you, if you’ll open your heart, the Lord has something beautiful to share with you. Write it down, refine the process, and learn His voice! DO NOT allow the enemy to distract you because he will try. He hates when we listen to the Holy Spirit, but REJECT the enemy! Turn to our Father. Allow His loving arms to embrace you! Listen to His voice, and be encouraged that He has something special to give you!
Be bold, and let the Love of our Father embrace you today! Love you, -Trent
