I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy…. where?

I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart…. where? OH. So that’s what happened. Just like the children’s song we sung in the 90’s, I’m singing it again as a 24 year old, and I’ve forgotten where I put “my joy”. The Lord has been speaking to me about joy here lately and all I can continue to think about is that song. Well, I know why now. I forgot where I put it for a while. How awful! If you’re unfamiliar with this children’s song, the triumphant ending sings “its down in my heart TO STAY!” Well, that’s the problem. I had it, and forgot to let it stay.
Before you equate my rambled mess above to a children’s devotional, I’ll just take a moment and be honest. I’ve had my moments, and I misplaced my joy. Its not as if God’s joy ever leaves us, but I think we can place things in front of it and forget the overwhelming power the Lord has to offer through the Holy Spirit in giving us joy. As I’ve been working on schoolwork and such, the Lord just had a moment with me.
It looked something like this:
God: “Hello Trent”
Me: “Oh, Hi God”
God: “Can I have a moment”
Me: Sure, but can you make it quick, I’ve got a pile of work to finish”
10 min later… Me: “Lord, I’m sorry.”
God: “Its ok, I just wanted to tell you I have the joy you misplaced”
What a wake up call. What a mess life is when we attempt to live without joy. The entire time I’ve been writing this post I felt like a kid that just ate 20 pixie sticks. It’s like a joy sugar rush! I love it! I found my misplaced joy.
When your heart overflows with love, pours out sorrow, and sings in comfort, that’s Joy. Have you ever known the Lord to overwhelm you with His joy? I hope you have, because the moment is unlike any other. We’re called to live in the joy of the Lord. Maybe you let something take its place for a moment in time, but pray and ask the Lord to reveal the joy He has for you!
Joy, the triumphant sound of your heart listening and responding
to the Holy Spirit moving in your life.
Joy, the unyielding process of love pressing on your heart.
Joy, the love of Christ.
Find His joy, love, and peace! It’s waiting. Just ask.
Love you all,
-Trent
